Confirmation

Confirmation is a sacrament in which the Holy Ghost is given to those already baptized in order to make them strong and perfect Christians and soldiers of Jesus Christ. It has been variously designated: a perfecting or completing, as expressing its relation to baptism. With reference to its effect it is the "Sacrament of the Holy Ghost", the "Sacrament of the Seal" (signaculum, sigillum). From the external rite it is known as the "imposition of hands", or as "anointing with chrism". The name in use currently for the Western Church is Confirmation.

The Sacrament of Confirmation is the second of the three sacraments of initiation because, historically, it was administered immediately after the Sacrament of Baptism. Confirmation perfects our baptism and brings us the graces of the Holy Spirit that were granted to the Apostles on Pentecost Sunday.

If you are interested in receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation, please call our Parish Office: 716-652-3972

Parochial and public school 9th and 10th grade students are invited into the Confirmation program to better understand how they may use their gifts to be Christ in our world by serving neighbor and community. Teens preparing for Confirmation are also responsible for service hours, soup kitchen experience, and paperwork pertinent to the requirements of this program. Teens must attend 6 classes and a retreat.
